And here I was trying to help you...so much for that!

But seriosly the 12 is slower than the 30V.

The 12V has these modifications:
headers
cams
intake
racing throttle bodies
bored mafs
bored intake manifolds
exhaust

30V has:
chip
intake
supercharger
exhaust

The 30V has greater potential due to the superchager. But the 12V can easily be as powerful as the stock 30V.

for the money, is it not going to be cheaper per bhp increase to mod the 30v?

Well neither of them are really conducive to moding, with the exception of the Supercharger. If you want to mod, the 1.8 is the better choice. It has the potential to be much faster than any 2.8.

fair point, but (where I am anyway), the 1.8t only came in quat form after 99, so its a bit out of my price range at the moment. I am a poor student you know...

you can get bored mafs and stuff for the 30V. i was unaware that there was camshafts availiable for the 12V. how much are they?

Yeah but there aren't actual companies making most of the bored ported stuff, like for the 12V.

Not sure there are various companies who sell them with varying agressiveness. I know schrick makes them. I think they are around 600 bucks a set though.

I considered buying a junkyard intake manifold and doing it myself. But I don't plan on keeping my car around much more than another year.
