My 98 a6 2.8 quattro was just totaled so this puts me in the search for a new car. I want one of the new(er) body style a4's with the mt6speed transmission but was wondering what the difference would be between the 1.8t and the 3.0. Obiously gas mileage would be better in the 4cylinder but in terms of accelaration and performance is the 6cylinder 3.0 much more superior?

I would appreciate all the information you guys could give me.

from factory the 3.0 dominates the 1.8 in every aspect.

if your going to do some mods other than cosmetic stuff than the 1.8 has the ability to be faster after a few mods simply because the turbo responds to mods better.

 

Stock, the 3.slow will have more low-end torque and a little more beef to it. Mods are limited on the 3.0, however.
Since you're local, if you're ever around I can give you a ride in my car and you'll never want a 3.0 after having your head slammed back in to the headrest one time in my car.
3.0 has some window trim that 1.8t doesn't have and some small asthetic stuff like that. Other than that, though, they're pretty much the same. Huge Audi gatherings and boozefests in da burgh; pm me if you want in with that great group of people with all types of Audis. They hang out mostly on the other audi forums, though. Won't see any of them on audiforums.

I know plenty about audi's and cars in general, sorry im not a hardcore wrench head that wants to run low 11's in there audi. If you want decent power and don't care to mod the engine then buy the 3.0

In fact you might end up saving money due to the fact you can't mod the crap out of the engine.

 

Well, besides the supercharger, no other mods for the 3.0. The SC will set you back $5k.

 

Well the super charger will put a serious hole in yur pocket but its puts out about 330 horse. Along with some exhaust and a chip and suspension it will be a dam nice ride, and no one will suspect a super charged b6

 

I am def not a noob when it comes to audis, you my friendobviously are. Capt. obvious's car is loweredon teins ( again much nicer than your setup) those ugly wheels you talk about are HRE's ( again much nicer than anything you got) not to mention my setup is much nicer Then your ish as well.
I'm just returning the favor because you talk alot of **** on here and more people need to start throwin it back.
