Default 2003 A4 1.8T handling issue

Daughter has an 03 A4 with brand new all weather tires. On snow covered roads, back end is all over the place. Handles like a dream on dry roads. Any ideas?

Quatro or FWD? Cars are pretty light in the backend with most weight over the front tires. You can add weight (sand bags, bags of kitty litter, etc...) to the trunk to increase traction.

It's a FWD. I did put a little weight in the trunk and it helped a little. It's not like the back end is just light, it's literally all over the place even when driving straight on a snow covered road.

Might want to check the rear suspension for worn or broken parts (shocks etc...). Also might want to check the alignment on the car. With a FWD it shouldn't feel like the rear is moving around when going in a straight line.

Check your rear brakes too. If they're hanging up even slightly it could cause the rear wheels to skid and lose traction.

Had the car aligned, that's all it took. Handles snowy roads like a dream now.
Thanks for your help.
