2003 A4 1.8T Q - Just some questions
Hey All,
I just got my ride last Saturday and it didn't come with the owners manual. I still have to pick one up but in the meantime I was hoping some of you might be able to help me answer some questions. I've searched throught he forums and was reading around, but wasn't able to find some answers to the questions I have below:
1 - How do you turn on the heated seats?
2 - In regards to the 3 buttons on the drivers side storage area, there are three buttons (top - tilt sensor, middle - blank, lower - trunk), I've heard people say that the middle is the interior motion sensor ... but the middle button I have is blank, does that mean I don't have the interior motion sensor (I tried to set off the interior motion sensor but it wouldn't work).
3 - How do you set the 1MPH and the MPH2?
4 - Is there a way to change the display in front of the steering wheel, instead of seeing the radio station that's playing?
5 - Is there a way to show "trip a" and "trip b" information in terms of mileage (and other info)?
6 - Are there any other secret buttons anywhere that I haven't found yet?
7 - Are there any tricks with the buttons and settings that anyone is willing to share?
Any help would be great! Thanks!

1. Are you sure you have heated seats? Theres a possibility you dont.. my car doesnt
2. Unsure, I know we had a discussion on interior motion sensors causing issues, search it. I've heard wind and crazy things can set them off
3. How do you "set" them? You can click through all of them with the windshield wiper "stick" its on the very outter part of it at the tip, click that to go through them, if you wanna "Reset/Clear" the info then click the little buttom on the top/end part of the "stick"
4. Not to my knowledge, I've pushed majority of the buttons. It will always say CD/Radio, Temperature, then MPG or whatever you choose for it to show.
5. I don't know if you can set two seperate ones, but if you click through (see #3) then you will be able to see the features your looking for, and can reset them before a big trip. Reset them and reset your mileage "Counter"
6. Think you got it pretty much under control, its not james bonds car
7. No tricks that I know off, Its pretty straight foward.. you'll know it all soon, just give it time

Are you sure you don't have a manual? Did you check in the pockt underneath the steering wheel column? It isn't usually kept in the glove box, unless your car is fast enough for it to come flying out at your knees all the time (stuffing it full of speeding tickets fixes that).
I'll answer some of it because I don't care about some of it so I don't even know how it works.
1. Two identical ***** on the HVAC control (one right side of panel, and one left, at bottom) that have a pic of a "seat" next to them, and a **** that you spin up or down with numbers on it to adjust heat control. 0=off, and 6= warm your buns. If those controls aren't there, you don't have heated seats. They are not hidden and plain as day.
2. I know that 2004 modle had interior motion sensor removed. The slats in the moonroof cover are still there, but there is no actual motion sensor. I don't know if that carried back to your year. I did hear once that only the 2002 had it and it was junk. I don't know if that's true. the only button of those three I use is the trunk opener.
3. No diea, and don't care.
4. Yes, get an aftermarket stereo and then you won't have that there. At first I was mad because I wouldn't have it there, but aftermarket stereos are much better in features, and a few look like they are OE double-din head units, so the trade off was fine. Other than that, no. You're stuck with the radio info. If you get an RNS-E Nav system, the nav info will show up there. That's kind of cool, but again, OE radios and NAV do not stack up well to the features of aftermarket. The only advantage they have is that they are OE>
5. Don't know; don't care.
6. once you learn the other forums for Audi's, you'll find they have sticky threads on "secret features" that these cars have. No real secret buttons, per say, but there are some cool things the car does that some people need reminded of (secret EQ on stereo, turn signal blinks 3 time auto at one touch, holding down driver auto HVAC button sets both sides to equal, etc).
7. Again, Use search function, and find other Audi website forums where those features are posted at the top and marked "READ THESE POSTS FIRST".
EDIT: Please excuse 'da spellin' errors. I have tendinitis in my wrist and can't type with this brace on.

1 - How do you turn on the heated seats? Look for two dials at the bottom of the heat/AC cluster, next to the defroster buttons. Turn these from 0-6 to turn on and set the amount of heat for each seat. If you don't have these dials, then you don't have heated seats.
Looks like you don't have the interior motion sensor.
3 - How do you set the 1MPH and the MPH2? These are speed warnings. To set it, drive at the desired speed and press the "check" button on the instrument cluster. Once set, if you exceed the set speed by 8 MPH or more, you'll get a warning beep. To clear this, hold the "check" button until an MPH with a "no" symbol through it shows up.
4 - Is there a way to change the display in front of the steering wheel, instead of seeing the radio station that's playing? You can press the RDS button on the radio to turn the radio station text info on and off. Other than that, or turning off the radio, there's no way to turn this display off, unless you use the button on the bottom of the washer stalk to turn the entire display off.
5 - Is there a way to show "trip a" and "trip b" information in terms of mileage (and other info)? There's only one trip odometer (on my '02 at least). Press the "0,0" button to reset it. The other trip computer info (MPG, avg. speed, miles-to-empty, etc.) is displayed using the buttons on the bottom and end of the wiper stalk.
6 - Are there any other secret buttons anywhere that I haven't found yet? Not much that's secret, but some cool features exist that you may not know about until you get and read the manual.
