2004 reliability....
So I think I found my next A4. It is a loaded 2004 1.8T Quattrowith 32,000 miles. I have them talked down to $20,000.00 out the door. I am supposed to go finish the paperwork today. But last night I decided to visit a friend of mine who is a mechanic at a foreign garage. He told me to run as fast as I could from it. He said the electrical problems are rediculous and cost an arm and a leg to repair. Now im nervous and not really sure what to do. Can someone offer me any insite on if this is true?
well it seems your mechanic is a little scared of these cars lol,
they are very well built and engines are strong so with good maintenance and the timing belt plus all the other things you could try the dealer to renew before you buy it would be a bonus but not that important because it only has 32k so not run in yet,
old saying where cars are concerned ( abuse it and loose it )

I have a 2004 A4 3.0Q with 41000 miles. It runs great without any issues (knock on wood). Like avant80 said, a good maintenance (all cars not just Audi need a good maintenance, right?) you will be fine. Go for it and enjoy your ride.
2004.5 here with no problems. I had one coilpack fail after I went to big turbo. But those are the big problems most B6 Audi's have. Simple repair and most of us carry extras in our trunk because Audi refuses to believe that's a problem.
Other than that, there have been some fuel pump problems, but mostly <2003, and there have been some sunroof switch problems.
None of it is a "nightmare". Nothing is more than any other car out there.

consumer reports have concluded that 2004 A4's are a lot more reliable than 2003 and older. 2003 and older engine models actually received very poor scores because of maintenance issues. So far 2004 is a lot stronger.
