Default v8 reliability in a 2004 S4

I personally much prefer the 2004 s4's with the v8. I am just wondering what the reliability factor is. The only ones in my price range are aroudn 60kmiles and up. i don't drive hard at all, and i'm at sea for 6 months of the year, but i woudl liek this car to last a good 5 years or so with no major problems.

i'm switching from a mini s. . . so i'm hoping for a nicer more mature car, with good build and reliability. i'm also thinkign fo a lower milage biturbo s4 but obviously older, but i've had bad luck with turbos, a piece of junk 1.8t in the family twice around, both completely fell apart although maintained impecably and driven lightly by my mom and dad. so i'm hesitant from getting them. they were a 2000 and 2001 vw passat respectively.

so tell me about what to expect from teh car, i can't afford to be doing major work all the time, but i expect a few grand each year in repairs to keep it running proper. . .

Welcome, the 4.2 v8 in the s4 is very relyable, youll love it. Quality is great, plenty of power, not going to break on you, AWD, but not the best gas milage.

Passats are crap dont compare to audi

V8's only came in the 2004 B6 S4's, so you're in luck
If you're only driving it 6 months out of the year, then this car will fit you and your budget fine. It is way nicer than a mini inside and out. And that V8's exhaust note is great, esp with an aftermarket exhaust like milltek. Also, the quattro system will keep you out of trouble in the snow (if u even drive in the snow) and rain. It amazes me how great I can manuver in the snow, tho I have a B5.
Ya those Turbo s4's are crap! lol
gooodluck!!

I have a 2001 S8 with the 4.2 V8. It has 59k on it. I'm not some super guru mechanic junkie, but I've heard that the Bi turbo 6's are not as reliable as the V8.
