2011 A4 Oil Problem..is the dealer right or am I an idiot?
Hi,
Back in August of 2010 I purchased a 2011 Audi A4 2.0T. I absolutely love the damn car and when I purchased it, the salesman told me that the car wouldn't require an oil change until 10k miles and so forth. Every 1.8-2k miles I have to put a quart of oil in the car. My car has 34k miles on it and I have gone to the dealer 4 times for a legit oil change, the other times I honestly just throw a quart of 5w-40 oil in the car until i hit about 8k miles, then I take it in.
I understand that you may think that I am an idiot and I'm hoping this isn't destroying my car but that is also the reason why I am here since I just don't really believe the dealer when he tells me the car is fine.
I will admit, I get on the car ALOT (I upgraded from a 4cyl 2007 Toyota Camry, it's nice to have a decently quick car now). Winter is approaching and I do enjoy a little fun here and there (First AWD ever). I do warm-up my car for at least 3-5 minutes before driving it.
I have read that Audi's do burn oil quickly which is ok but,
Is it ok to dump a quart of oil in the car without doing a legit oil change so I don't have to drop $80 to have the dealer do it for me every 2k miles?
Will this problem eventually go away? I hear that the engine needs to break in for these problems to be resolved, but I would assume 34k miles is more than enough time.
You will probably say I am an idiot for paying $80 for an oil change, but I am not car savy what-so-ever(that's why I am here
). I am never going to a jiffy lube or what not...they changed my brother's friends brake fluid and put transmission fluid instead and it destroyed his brake pads.
Thank you.

Turbocharged engines do tend to burn through some oil. I believe your 1 qt ~every 2K miles is within the accepted specification for oil loss. you aren't going to hurt anything by topping off the oil as necessary between full changes as long as you are using [essentially] the same oil that is already in the car. you mention "getting on it a lot" which will speed up the process of burning oil but don't let that stop you. it is perfectly OK.
