Is 40% tint worth getting?
ORIGINAL: rccks96
Does the limit only apply to the front windows?
That's the case here in utah. So I have 40% on the fronts, then 20% on the back (passengers) windows, and 20% - or maybe even darker on the back windshield.
That may be an option. You can see my pic (kind of) to get a feel for how it looks. I think it looks really nice, and having dark tint in the back makes the front tint appear darker than it really is.

I would go with 35%, its darker than the 40%, and you could probably talk your way out of a ticket. Just say you got 35% cus thats what the law says. The slight factory tint is negligable.
If the difference is big enough, I'll go with 35 and cross my fingers.
I'm a cop
law here is 35 percent, i have 20 percent. 35 just isnt worth paying for.
we dont care about tint, some state troopers might, but thats rare. Just dont tint your windshield because that WILL get you pulled over. If you go 5 percent thats kinda askin for it too.

My friend got pulled over just for his 20% tint, and got a ticket for it. I'm thinking this is rare, but that same cop is in the same general area. On the other hand, he drove a black GTI, which I think stands out a lot more than an A4, especially a silver one.

On my J30t, I had 5% on the rear and back windows, and 10% on the front windows (for nighttime visability, you can't really see anything besides headlights at 5% at night). I got pulled over once, and it was a "fix it ticket," where you don't get a fine, but you have to fix you car to make it legal (same if you don't have side mirrors or busted taillights.) I had to pay $100 to get the tint removed to show it to the court, and then right after that I went back and got them re-tinted less than 2 hours after it was removed. It was totally worth it. I see it as "maintence" costs for my tinting, it happens every so often, and you have to spend a little money every now and then.
But that was a black car, I don't much care for lighter colored cars with dark tints, so I don't know about a silver. Do you have a picture of your car now? That would really help in having others decided what would look good on it.
