Hi, my 96 auto transmission is making a noise when it is in reverse. I noticed that this happens pretty much only when the car hasn't been driven for a few hours. This is a rare occurence. Other than that, it's fine. It has 120K babied miles and just had a trans service about 3 months ago. Hopefully, it isn't on its way out. If so, I'm breaking the bank as a college student and going for a B5 S4 6-speed...
I want to wait on that though. I really hope the car is fine for now, I need it to last me till Spring when I transfer to UCSD.

RE: 96 A4 2.8Q transmission question
I have a 96 A4 2.8 and the person before me shifted gears..(yea...he thought he was racing)...and I have 186K on mine and I have yet to have a problem with mine. When i put it in reverse...it just changes hard, kinda jerks. I don't think this helps....but if it does...
That actually does help...it sort of jerks when going into reverse from time to time. But does that mean something in the trans is shot?
