Default A4 1.8 T Possible DV problems

Today I started noticing a strange farting sound coming from the engine compartment. It doesn't happen all the time, mostly when taking off from a stop light. It doesn't seem to happen under high acceleration or at least I didn't hear it. I have only heard under light casual acceleration a few times. I checked around in the engine compartment and did not see anything out of the ordinary. Could this be a sign that my stock DV is starting to leak or could it be something else like a vacuum line? I have a K&N air induction system installed (K&N 57i kit) if that makes a difference. Thanks

Like an actual farting sound or like a ticking or taping rapidy sound. Do you have anything else done to your car?

if it sounds like a goose honk, then its likely the dv.

Well it's not a taping sound. More like what you said brrman a goose sound maybe. Sounds like someone with gas to me, but I guess that could be considered a goose sound. I started hearing it like a day after I installed the air intake kit. The intake kit is the only modification I have. And I'm pretty sure the diverter valve has never been changed.

Yeah, I don't think the intake made the DV go bad. I'm just trying to make sure that a bad DV is the only thing that can make the goose honk sound when it goes bad, I guess I should have asked this to begin with. I plan on replacing the DV anyway but I want to make sure it isn't something else so I don't replace the DV and still have the annoying honk sound. I know what the air intake sounds like (I'm not referring to the DV dumping into the intake either) just to clear that up.
