I recentlly installed an eclipse 5504 headunit, mbquart comp. speakers, and a jl 12" sub. Now I had the clutch replaced in my car and the mechanic told me that I can only use factory head unit, and that I will not be able to use the subwoofer or the amp. His reason was that it is interferring with the audi computer (he cant get proper or any readouts for that matter). He said thats the reason the catalytic converter went bad and the reason one of the valves is bad. All I want to know is how? Does this mean I cant put in a simple system in my car? I just want to know if im being lied to. Thanks in advance

I have an Alpine in my car and it hasn't caused any problems. I am thinking of putting in new speakers any recomendations? How do u like ur JL?

 

I'm running a Pioneer aftermarket unit with Rockford Fosgate amp and sub, have had no problems. The only problem I ve been told is that the display no longer says 'track 1' etc where it used to on the dash. Sounds like BS to me, but maybe someone can shed more light onto this.

 

I'm gonna call BS on that. This sounds like another question for brrman though. Damn him and his expertise!

yes that is ture on the B5 the cd or radio station will not show up on the dash display when replced with an aftermarket headunit.

demo some setups... I took my car to Al & Eds, and they let you hear some of the installs there are currently working on. The problem with the a4 is you can only fit 4" speakers in the front. Id go with components because you can set the frequencies you want at each speaker and it just sounds a hell of a lot better. The JL 12" is perfect. Its loud to the point where inside the car its perfect, but you wont get pulled over by the police from 2 blocks away. If you want to turn heads though (ego then get more subs. But 12" I think is efficient.
