a4 2001 1.8t opinions
Hey all, first time poster.
I'm looking at buyign a 01 a4 1.8t and was wondering if i could get feedback from owners on here bout it reliablity. I read people complaining with alot of problems with the engine, any info would be very helpful. here is the carfax report and also the price on it is 9000, what do you guys think?

my engine has been very reliable, i have 112k now on my engine and all ive had is a couple of boost leaks, so i have replaced a couple hoses.
however, i did have to replace my power steering rack and ive had to replace 3 wheel bearings. control arms and minor suspension things have also been issues and are probably going to be your biggest concern.

I got a 2001.... replaced control arms, maf, cam shaft tensioner, and some hoses from a boost leak. Also had sludge but that was covered by Audi because oil changes were all done correctly.
Also just had to get my heater core replaced. 180 for the part....900 for labor.
Its a great car, just be advised you WILL have to repair it more and it will cost more than say a Toyota or Honda.

how many miles have you got on it Shaun?
I have an 01' aswell, I've only had it for a short while, 3k miles, 3 and a half months.. I've replaced the breather hose and I'm about to replace the ect sensor. My car has got 60,5xx miles.

currently i have a 2000 a4 2.8 and i've had it for like 3 years and i spent probably around 2-3k on it, so you guys think the timing belt needs to be changed soon? it already has 65k on it so i'm guessing i have to change it right after i get, which would suck.

i changed mine at 85k, and was pretty lucky i think. you wouldn't want to risk it over 70. you could probably get him to lower the price if you tell him that needs to be done soon.

all the audi owners i know with the updated tensioners changed theres between 75-90k. I think people who suggest changing the timing belt before 70k on the cars with updated tensioners are alarmist coming over from the car with the previous tensioners. i'm sure they've gone out before 70k, but i'm willing to bet it's extremely rare. I only have 60k on mine, and people have jumped on me to get it changed asap.. i'll take my chances until about 70-80k.

Changed my timing belt at 100,000 (when my extended warranty was over)
