2001 S4 for $13,500 - opinions???
I'm not completely new to Audis (see signature) but am intrigued with a red S4, MT6, but 113k miles. It's a private sale sittingat theprivate shop thatworks on my A6. The shop did the timing belt, which includes all the additional parts. The car appears loaded - has the winter package, etc. Also new tires, but a Japanese brand and I prefer Pirelli's. I have not been inside nor driven it yet. Thought I'd do a little research first. I would also pull a carfax before I bought it.
Is the 2.7T a more reliable engine than the 1.8T ina "regular" A4? Does this sound like a decent price?
I intend to have an indepth chat with theshop owner and test drive. We talked briefly and he says he has gone through it and it is in good shape and runs well. He has driven it a couple hundred miles.
I am concerned about the high mileage (my A6 now has 94k) and the fact it was owned by a younger guy (no offense intended to anyone out there). Supposedly he is selling it because he could not afford the insurance. And if he can't afford insurance, maybe he skimped on maintenance.
Looking for feedback and free advice. I did a search on this site for 2001's and read all the early posts. Based on those, the price seems reasonable and is a little lower than KBB.

the 2.7t motor is very solid. You will find guys who have gone 200k miles plus on them. At 113k miles the most important concern is the turbos. They will go eventually, the question is when. And when they do go it gets quite expensive. You'd probably end up spending about 4-5k or so.
I would talk with the shop you deal with and find out what they'd charge you to change the turbos just to help your curiousity. The car will last but at 113k miles things will go wrong. Most of them will be little annoyances, but when the turbos do go be prepared to spend big $$$

4-5k for k03's is a bit high. When the turbos give out, replace them with the k04 if you have the cash to spend. They will be more expensive then the k03 but provide a lot more power. The k04s will run around 2-3k, depending who you get them from. Usually some on ebay for 2k though
