A4 exhaust and intake Questions
I have just bought a 2000 audi a4 1.8t quattro and I am very serious about modding this car. German cars however are much different than japanese cars so Im a nooby when it comes to audis. I was just wondering What the best turbo intake to get for my car would be ? And going along with this question, when im installing a new intake in this car can i get an intake that completely takes the place of the intake box or can I only change the the turbo intake hose because I would like to get an turbo intake with a nicer look than some box sitting there. Lastly Im in the market for an exhaust, I was wondering how good the Apexi World Sport Exhaust is performance wise because I would like to get alot out of this car, what other good exhaust systems can I get for this car that are affordable and under 800 dollars? Thank you to whoever responds.
Welcome to the forums, Dstranks! I, too, own a 2000...
Well, you can replace both if you like; airbox and the hose. Neuspeed makes a pretty nice turbo intake hose. You can find it here: http://www.neuspeed.com/products/product_details.asp?app=14|AQ&type=11<ype=ns_eur o&p_id=1873 but I wouldnt worry about that now, seeing your car is stock. Exhaust is a good place to start if you want a little power and a nice sound. Once again, Neuspeed makes an exhaust thats right up your alley... and I own it as well. If you only have $800 to spend, this one will fit your budget... and it comes with a down-pipe as well (much like a turbo back). The exhaust belts out a very deep note that is pretty solid through the RPMs... it sounds clean.
As for the airbox... your better off getting a free flowing air filter. The HP gain from a cone filter is minimal and it would probably rob HP from you unless you got a cold air intake (which could cause trouble in rain situations). K&N makes a drop in for the 1.8t but beware... they come oiled to high hell... let that **** dry or you'll knock a sensor out (like me).
Once again... welcome to the family. Ill let Panda do the real welcome. [&:]

Whats up man. First thing is first get a chip. Check out APR, GIAC, Revo, Or Neuspeed. IF you are as serious about this car as you are making yourself seem then you would go straight to a turbo upgrade and software. In that case you would need exhaust, intercooler, injectors and all those goodies too. If you are trying to keep the stock turbo then chip and exhaust is where to start.
^ ^ peteman hit the nail on the head... just to elaborate a tiny bit, if you do plan on doing the turbo upgrade, its safe to just stick with the exhaust, and any intake mods you deem worthwhile (though most arent). Once the exhuast is on, you're ready to go to a bigger turbo, like say the k04, which requires no supporting mods other than the chip.
If turbo upgrade isnt your bag, just skip the exhaust for now, and go straight for the chip... it'll get you 50 hp, for less money than exhaust. Then do the exhaust later when the funds are back up, to top it all off. If you buy the chip now, and THEN upgrade turbo's... you'll have get the chip reprogrammed again, which, although free when using APR chips (and GIAC i think), it's still a pain in the ***.
Let us know what your plans are for the future...

Reprogamming the chips for a larger turbo is not free, nor does APR make programs for the K04. if you are planning to go for a K04 turbo in the future, get the GIAC chip. They do give you a discount if you reprogram for a larger turbo. APR, to my knowledge doesnt make one for the K04.
Once you chip, following up with an exhaust is a smart idea. With more power from the chip, thats more stress on your exhaust and turbo. Stock exhaust is about 14psi and thats pushed BACK against the exhaust turbine. An aftermarket exhaust will be more free flowing and prolong the life of your turbo.
