tpneumat, you have an AWM engine. The timing belt drives the water pump. Have both done by an independent mechanic. Should cost between $500 and $700.

 

Thanks. I figured they were wrong on both accounts (when to change belt and location of my water pump). Bizarre.

 

Im going to wait a while. I'll do both at the same time....for some reason I think they do both at the same time because the water pump is right there...correct me if im wrong here (i'm sure someone will). 105K sounds about right to me. My INDEPEDANT mechanic looked it up on his technical website he subsribes to...some of you may be familiar with these for mechanics, techies...etc., and said i would be fine till then. I hear everyone on doing it before it HURTS, bu i think 60K is overly conservative. par for the course with many audi owners. Still have yet to hear anyone weigh in on this convincingly one way or the other.....propably found w/ a search.....sorry to get off orginal topic.

 

As I wrote earlier, my timing belt broke at apporx 65,000 and I was REAL lucky I didn't do damage. 60,000 overly conservative? Not in me experience.
