Default ABS Control Module question

1999 A4 2.8Q

so my ABS light comes on in my car after about 15 mins of driving along with the YELLOW ABS the red brake light flashes. Audi tech checked everything and told me it was my ABS control Module. Sometimes it turns off while driving and i feel a slight hitch in the brake. A mechanic, friend of mine, hooked it up to OBD tester and it said ABS brake signal intermittent. he said it may just be the ABS rings in the pump. so two questions.

has anyone had this problem before, and what was it?

secondly, when i remove the ABS control module from the ABS pump to have sent away and rebuilt, the brakes should still work, but i won't have ABS ( which i basically don't have now) right?

Start with an Audi code reader or a VAG-COM. Get the codes. It might be one wheel.

firstly I would say the flashing red light with the ABS light means controller ecu problem,
secondly yes and as said VAG would pinpoint the problem

Yes, this problem is very common..you have a bad ABS Module. Just send it away to get it rebuilt or else will be ~$1,000 from the dealer. And Yes, you can drive your car and have brakes without the ABS Module in. (You just won't have the ABS) I did the exact same thing with my old 98 A4.

thank you sir, that is what i wanted to hear. it was still under the 60 day warranty from the dealer when it went wrong. so he is going to have it rebuilt for me. and yes, the dealer said exactly that. $992 to be exact.
