Well i just got a 2002 Audi A4 1.8t and our roads got iced over a while ago, and when ever i touched the breaks to hard, obviosly they would go into a skid. But when i did go into a skid, i heard a grinding noise, i dunno if it was the breaks, the calapers, or something. but i know for sure i heard a grinding noise.

so, i thought it was normal for that to happen cuz of the ice.

but...

some idiot cut infront of me and i had to slam as hard as i could on the breaks to not hit him. And the band thing is, i went into a skid, and heard that exact same grinding noise. (By the way this happened on dry pavement on a nice day and going about 30mph)

So, i heard that apperently ABS is supposed to stop you from going into a skid. Yet i went into one, am i imagining things? or is my ABS all screwed up.

 

If it only grinds when panic stopping or slippery coditions with no abs light on it is the abs working, it is the way it is supposed to be.

 

Its also grinding and going into a skid, in normal conditions

when i was cut off, it was in dry pavement, with sunny weather, and i went into a skid. which doesnt seem right to me.

 

Its normal operation of the abs pump. The tires will still screech when you break hard. You abs isnt broken.
