Amsoil

RE: Amsoil
I don't think it would have to be specifically approved by Audi for use. I used to be a distributor for their products, and used them exclusively in my Z. Great products, on par with Redline fluids. I think you'd be absolutely fine using it. It's expensive though, and you really don't need that type of fluid for a daily driven street car, so you really may be spending more money than you need to, whereas you can use Mobil1 or something similar and it'll do everything you need, for a lot less money. At my wholesale cost, it cost me more per quart for Amsoil than it did buying Mobil1 off the shelf. Retail vs retail, you're spending a lot (back then it was roughly $7 per quart). You don't have to spend that much to get a good, quality oil that will protect your engine very well.

RE: Amsoil
Everybody uses castrol cause its so cheap. I believe in the "you get what you pay for" theory. I used amsoil for about 3 oil changes. There was a noticeable difference in the way the engine ran after I switched, much smoother. The only issue I had was it was a 0w-40 which made the valve cover gasket leak even worse, plus it was so damn expensive and the only way I could get it was through their website. I then switched to valvoline and the car felt more responsive, and that valve cover leak is nearly gone.

I try not to be a victom of the placebo effect, but I used Amsoil5w40 euro car formula for about a year and I honestly think it ran smoother than what Ive been running lately (M1). Maybe that had to do with my water pump becoming noisy over time though and Im mixing the 2 up.But, using Amsoil makes a man feel good for sure.

RE: Amsoil
0w-40 if u live up north 10w-40 if you live down south. and yeah you pay more, but i get at least 20 more miles to each tank, and my oil temp is a couple notches lower than any other oil, so its not a placebo effect. the extra money i pay for the amsoil, i make back.
