Default Another Key/Remote Question

Hi -

I have a 1998 Audi A4 2.8L AWD/Quattro and I have been looking for extra keys for it...

I've been reviewing some of the posts in here, and I'm sure I've missed a few pertinent ones but...I was wondering if anyone can tell me, without a trip to one of the overpriced dealers, for certain if my car would've ever had a remote and, if so, what kind? I know it probably sounds silly to a lot of you, but the previous Audis that I've driven were all of an older generation when remotes were pretty rare.

At any rate, the only thing I have for this car(bought it used)is a set of keys that are, I believe, laser cut - one for the locks and one for the ignition. The key have Audi black rectangular"heads" on them but, there are no buttons on the heads. It would be great to have an extra set or two of the keys(and not at the dealer's outrageous price fo keys)but it would also be nice to have a remote - if that car came with one when it was new.

Is there an easy way to determine this without major griefand confusion ?

Yes your car has a remote, since you bought it used you probably only got the valet key. There are other options available but I suggest you have the key cut at the stealership and buy the remote from ebay or somewhere like that. Read this thread, its kinda long but it'll answer your questions... https://www.audiforums.com/m_385257/tm.htm
