Default another noob clunking question

When driving over large bumps(speedbumps etc), there is a one time, big thud that can be felt in the floor board and in the steering wheel. Also, if driving off road it will do it repetitively and makes me think my wheels are falling off. Here is the odd thing though, none of the boots on any suspension item are torn. Additionally, all the bushings look to be in great shape as well. There was also zero play when i shook the wheel with my hands at 9 and 3, and any other combination of "time" that you can think of. My mechanic suggested that it could be the struts, and i suppose he is right, but i've never had struts clunk this badly before. I should also note that the car handles perfectly and has no play in the steering at all. The ONLY time i get the clunking is with big bumps.
Thanks,
Ryan

i got the same exact problem. when i go over a medium size bump, i feel like my front end is going to fall off. well i changed my control arms and no luck. ya it might be the strut. also check the bolts that hold the strut support in the engine bay. i still have that noise and it sux driving a beautiful car and then having people's head turn not because of the beauty but becuase of the noise.

If the control arms are OK, then it may be the strut mount.
