Yeah, and I said it was even better now in tip... If you read the earlier posts on this topic youll see that I was mainly refering to the way it responded in Drive mode when downshifting, not just tiptronic. Model year 2000 tranny's were coded differently, maybe prematurely for the upcoming b6 platform. If you own a 2000, get a vag tool and change the coding to the "old style" shifting for driving in normal auto mode (not tiptronic.) Youll see what I mean, and I am very surprised that this topic hasnt come up before. Er maybe it did, Im a lazy ******....

 

I never dick around with the tiptronic, no point.

I mean it is fun a little bit when going in nyc and keeping the power there cutting thru traffic, and I use it for keeping the car in a lower gear to hold back doing down my huge hill (if not with an automatic you have to ride the brakes so much it is un believable), other than that my baby stays in auto. I got an auto for a reason, if I wanted another manual car I would have bought one. Just my $.02

not only that, the tranny knows what is best for itself as per shifting speeds and such under load levels to get the best gas economy, granted I dont always agree with it trying to go into 5th on some of my back roads, but for the most part the 2.8 has enough power to pull it along, even though I feel some times it gets really close to lugging level.

 

I was joking before about the tip. But I agree, the manual mode is more of a distraction sometimes.

Also, I did the "reset TCM to basic settings" from instructions that I got off of VAG site and my car shifts great now (Auto and Tip.) Those of you who have weird shifts and clunks and stuff may want to try this before flushing.

Unfortunately my little lurch when stopping is still there...I think it is definately a software issue/sensor issue. I am still digging. Good luck to all.
