Audi A4 CVT trans. control module probs..
Hi There,
I have a 2004 Audi A4 FWD 1.8t with the CVT transmission. I have had an ongoing problem with the Transmission Control Module (TCM) since I bought it. (of course it's out of warranty). Does anyone know that in order for me to change it myself - does it have to be calibrated after? Also I was wondering where I can buy the TCM or if possibly there is a place I can buy a remanufactered one?
I just need to solve this problem quickly. Right now the car won't move. Any info would be appreciated.

I have a '03 B6 with 100,000 miles. I just went through this. It's not going to be pleasant so sit down. My understanding is that the TCM is INSIDE the transaxle case. Unless you know how to R&R a transaxle, there are no user servicable parts. My PRND indicator was flashing, but I did not notice any difference in how it drove. I did the repair anyway, and itcost me $2200.00 at the dealer (No tranny shop would touch the CVT)! They have to crack the case to change the TCM, and replace all the fluid (I justchanged the fluidnot 10,000 miles before and at $36.00 a quart, 6 quart total, that hurts!). Hopefully you can find another way to deal with it. I spent 2 weeks looking for alternative solutions with no good results.
HAHA the dealer ripped you off, you only have to take off the tail housing which is super easy to do and you DON'T need to change the fluid for that. Its supposed to take a little under 4 hours but i change out those modules in like 20 minutes. But yes the module is expensive, and no its not that hard to replace if your mechanically inclined, just un-bolt the rear housing and pull the module off, then re-assemble.
The dealer quoted me $1700 for the TCM. I have a friend who works for a BMW dealerwhich is also related tothe adjacent Audi dealer who said their cost on the TCM is $1450. Add the labor and a couple other things I needed, and you quickly get to the price I paid. Had I known about this forum before hand, I would have tried to do it myself, though it still would have cost me a majority of what I paid.
