I am really seeking assistance on this. I have an Audi 2008 1.8 T with 50000kms.

Few days ago, it started jerking on and off during gear changes and also had
gearbox malfunction sign on the dashboard.

Took it to a Euro car mechanic who did diagnostics and transmission fluid change. Inspite of this, the problem still persists. This mechanic is saying that this could be a transmission control unit problem that will cost me $2500. However, he is suggesting this as a trail and error option again.

I also consulted Audi authorised service centre and they have asked me to bring the car in to do exactly the same inspections that have already done by the earlier mechanic. Moreover, according to them, the control unit will cost me $3k-4k .

I am concerned about spending all this money and the problem still prevailing.

Any insights experiences that you can share would be much appreciated. Anyone has has similar problems prior?
