Hi guys,

Recently my hydraulic steering fluid has been leaking, it is coming from the steering rack and now I face the process of finding a replacement rack. I'm hoping to save some money, and am going to order a 2nd hand rack. However are most steering racks all a uniform size? or must it be a Audi A4 specific rack? I was thinking maybe I could get a rack from VW or Skoda. I drive a 1995 1.9tdi Audi A4. Any advice would be appreciated!

 

Steering racks are vehicle specific. Not only length but steering shaft location, where and how the lines attach, where the mounting bolts are, etc.............Chances of one from a VW model fitting are slim to none. Not sure about a Skoda, or what they are to be honest, we don't have those here.
