hi i have a 1999 audi a4 1.8t quattro 4 cylinder the other day my car died i left the lights so i jumped it and it turned on but it is only idleing at 250 rpms and when i would rev it up abover 1300 it would shut off before all this happened when i would drive on the highway it would buck during accelerating and before that i got gas and about 5 minuts later it shut off i have tried to replace the maf sensor but that didnt work does anyone know what it could be i just got it started again and i was reving it up and got it past 1300 and it didnt shut off so i tried driving it and when i was giving it gas it had no power please help

 

Im going to take a small guess and say it has something to do with the turbo.

but to cover all the bases, try taking your battery into auto zone and getting it recharged & or just check the voltage, i know it sounds dumb that a battery would have any affect on an already running car but in my jeep i had similar problems as you and it was solved by getting the battery charged.

i do have some questions tho

1. did you use your turbo at all the day that it died?
2. are you getting any check engine lights?
3.does it sputter (or sound like speed buggy the cartoon) when you let off the gas?
4. have you tried just driving with the MAF unpluged?

 

Well i did think that it could have been the battery so i did get it checked and i havent tried driving the car due to i cant get it to go past 1300 rpms and as soon as i do it just cuts out even with the maf off but when i do get it running it idles at 250 and shakes like crazy i have gotten some p codes pulled but they are all dealer specific i tried finding them online but im not sure if it was correct cause two sites where different but maybe that could help you help m e here are the codes p1136 p1237 p1238 p2240 p1613 and there is also 0302 cylynder 2 misfire and 0102 maf or vaf circut low input i have also changed my spark plugs when i got those and then i took it ba k and got all the same codes plus a randoyoum cylinder misfires one hope you can help me thanks

 

Ididnt use the turbo that day and i do have a check engine light on but my wife says its been on for a long time she had this car before we got maried and now i got the problems but since it was driving fine i never really thought anything of it just thought it w
as probebly a bad sensor of some sort

 

sounds like a vaccum leak and a fried ignition coil. so the maf is unpluged right?

 

swap out the cylendar 2 coil( $30) , check your fuel injectors for cyl 1, and #8 make sure nothings loose, and for that last code p1613 its related to the ecu, so you may have to get it flashed or replace it.

but try this first.

1. check the airbox for leaks.
2.check for vaccum leaks (go to the search bar on the forum and type how to check for vaccum leaks)
3.Clean your maf with maf cleaner and plug it back in
4.Change cylander #2 ignition coil (many videos on how to do this on youtube make sure you get the one for the v4 as im assuming your car is)

 

The battery died and put the car into relearn mode. Use the search feature and find "throttle body adaptation" and do that with the key. Clear the codes, and then drive the car. Any codes that come back are real - post them up and we'll help you fix them.

That's fine - try out what I said. You may have old codes that don't apply anymore. Clear them all and troubleshoot what comes back after the TBA.
