Default Automatic transmission didn't engage; redlined the engine.

First off I searched and couldn’t find any relevant information.

I was driving home last night from work; the car hadn’t warmed up completely. From a stoplight I started to make my left hand turn, the road slops down hill right after the apex of the turn. Right after the apex of the turn though I got on the gas, the transmission downshifted, but it never engaged and I still had my foot planted to the floor. The engine ended up redlining and after a slight delay I quickly lifted my foot up off of the gas.

I called the dealership this afternoon, and the service department said that it was just a fluke that it didn’t engage and that the transmission did that in order to protect itself. The reason I bring this all up though is I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if so did their transmission continue to do this or was it a one time occurrence? And do you think that I might have damaged my transmission in any way?

I have noticed more frequently that the transmission often seems to be searching for the right gear, such as downshifting when I accelerate and then up shifting and then quickly downshifting again so that I can continue accelerating quickly. Is this normal behavior and I am just being to critical of the transmission.
I have started thinking about selling the car back to the dealership in order to go after a manual transmission A4, though this is a last resort considering I will take it in the a** with new payments.

I never believe the dealership when they say there is no problem but I know there is. Especially if its under warranty. They just don't want to be responsible for anything.

I took my car to the dealer three times to find a problem I was talking about and they could never find it. They told me the car is just getting old and little stuff happens like it is just going to be a little quirk of the car. Thats BS, I know there is a problem. I will just have to fix it myself (which won't be the first time I had to do it myself after taking it to the dealer)

Anyway, as for your problem, I would suspect you have some kind of problem. It may be in the transmission control module or it may be caused by slipping clutch packs or something that is making it act weird. You will probably find that this problem only gets worse over time. It may not happen often now, making it tough for a dealer to find, but I promise you they will find it as soon as your warranty is over and that it will cost a lot then.

I would say check your tranny fluid level and if it happens again, get it over to the dealer and make them try to find it. If you don't get it solved before the warranty expires, you are going to take it in the rear later.

Thank you, I also suspected it might have something to do with the transmission fluid since I was cornering and going down hill. I looked through the engine bay and couldn't find the transmission fluid level dipstick. I asked the service department about it, and they told me that I would need them to check the fluid levels and that there was no way for me to do so.

I am also concerned about the same thing happening to me, where I tell them there is a problem and they tell me they cannot find it. This comes at a bad time because I had an appointment to get my car chipped next Tuesday, now I am not too sure if I should be putting anymore power down through the transmission.
