The Best Airbox Mod? writeup with pics..
**UPDATE** **UPDATE** **UPDATE** **UPDATE**
For those of you that live in the snow and have done this mod I have a snow shield. I will be posting pix and the 'how to' within the next few weeks. Also I have made 3 more kits just like mine for any of you that don't have access to a shop. I can make more if needed but don't plan on making any money at it.....

well keep us posted. Why couldnt we make a custom cut sheet metal box? Im sitting here thinking that would be possible. Drill the sheet metal (like beer), then apply the mesh so nothing gets is there. Make small hangers for a filter, along with hangers to mount it in the engine bay. I think this could be a working idea, as long as it matches the size of the OEM plastic box. It would be lighter, less air resistant. Only problem is.... it should get hotter much quicker than the plastic, but I guess thats nothing that heat wrap couldnt fix.
Did this on a b6, and am now getting flamed for it on audizine. For you b5ers. was your fender liner that you drilled into metal or plastic? Because i definitely drilled through metal. You can hear the stock dv now, and throttle response may be slightly better but i honestly can't tell. I was hoping for it to growl more but it didnt, i was dissapointed in that. Heres a link to my post on audizine.

B5 fender liner is plastic. Dont listen to the snobs on the zine. Its not a bad mod... Even though you may have drilled through metal, it isnt a structual piece that holds your front end together or bares any significant weight. The only thing id be worried about is rust from the drilled holes. If you drilled through metal, i think you drilled in the wrong place on a b5, so now im not sure.

^^^ just read all of that on the zine. those guys are totally jealous that they didnt think of something like this. this mod still rocks. louder turbo, louder DV, and growwwwwl...
When I first got my A4, I was on the Zine and quickly realized that it involved (mainly) jerkoff rich kids who knew nothing about cars and who kept asking which shop to bring their cars to.
DIY - Or don't do it at all!
And after searching Audiforums for 5 minutes as a Guest, I found the answers to several of my questions that were completely ignored on the EBAY BodyKit Loving 'Zine.

haha chill beer mod, i'm still happy with the mod, but kinda pissed that drilled through metal. Thats my only concern. I'll just primer and paint the holes and it should be good. But i dont hear any extra growl from the engine, anything else i could do? Do you think taking the foam out of the box will help with that or just make the dv even louder?
wow... this thing is soooo old, but i'm totally going to do this, asap
don't flame me for bringing this back, i read the ENTIRE thing... yes i was bored out of my mind

what type of filter (like size, i know k&n) did you all use for this... did you use that HUGE one.... in this post http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2507093???? or are you using smaller ones? What diamater inlet are you using for your intake 2.5 inches?I see that it says 1 inch inlet for the small one?
