The Best Airbox Mod? writeup with pics..
I Just did this mod. Im chipped and I can hear the stock DV through the airbox. It sounds amazing. This mod is the ****. no regrets. I did it way more ghetto though I used a 3/4 wood bit and a drill for everything and took out both of those supports, not by choice though, they kinda broke off, whoops. No screen either and its supposed to rain like hell tomorrow here in MD. We'll see what happens hah. I did the same kind of thing to my old 4runner. It was called the deckplate mod. You cut a hole in the bottom of the box and you buy a deckplate from Boat US so whenever you go through deep stuff you put the deckplate on and it seals the entire box back to stock thereby avoiding sucking in mud and water.
For the people worried about hydrolock. Hydrolock is when enough water get into your engine to stop a cylinder due to the fact that liquids are not compressible. small ammounts of water will not do this, besides any moisture that gets in still has to go through the hot *** turbo and will evaporate before it gets to the engine. so unless you plan to drive through 3 foot deep puddles, or run your water cooler into the intake, you will be safe.
ok so i went to the carwash where they spray water at high pressure at your rims to clean them so i put a piece of duct tape over the holes. i forgot to take it off when i left and these are the results.
1. still growls
2. still hear the DV. not as loud
3. still hear the turbo. not as loud
4. no loss in the low end power (onepoint8tee)
5. no worries about having to drive through large puddles.
so i left it on till the other day cause it was raining a lot. and i took it off now that the rain has stopped. just thought i'd throw it out there. let you guys know that if you're worried about a little rain. there's nothing that duct tape cant fix...

So, this is probably a stupid question, but is the K&N filter not stock because I have a little sticker near the airbox that says the car has a reusable K&N filter.
