The Best Airbox Mod? writeup with pics..
i did this last weekend. I wanted to wait till it got a little cooler out. but the sound is awesome (low growl) and you can hear the 007 when letting off the throttle. that plus the snub I installed (w/ little vibration) would make someone in the passenger seat think I had a monster under the hood... lol.. I'm happy with the mod and its reversible so its all good. I also made a custom heat shield keeps the intake side of the engine bay cool and it works sooo good. if anyone wants one I'll make it for you just let me know.
OK, cause i have the Carboni, and was wondering about doing the box mod. So the results are good then. Let me ask one more thing, as far as the heat sheild, what do youll use to make it???
I have one sitting in my garage that I'm selling but for you you'll have to make it custom in order to fit around the carbonio. get sheet metal from home depot 24"x24" and cut it in half. then cut that down to fit front to back in the engine bay. making hooles for the turbo inlet and air intake scoop ducting.then get soam foam/rubber door seal at home depot and put that along the top then spray the turbo side with heat reflective enamel. total cost about $40-50. but it will keep the itake cold and is necessary in my opinion for anyone running an open element filter.
I am thinking about doing this, I am just worried water will get into my engine and I would rather keep my motor running strong. I may just go with an intake already made that replaces the stock airbox.
thats what i was worried about but think about it. if water gets past the screen and air conditioner filter then your engine actually has the power to suck it up through the K&N filter then all teh way down the turbo inlet hose. through the intercooler and then through the intake manifold. to the engine. I highly doubt it will even get past the K&N filter unless you are running through three foot puddles. I've driven in the rain and even been to the carwash where they shoot water at the tires. and the inside of the box is bone dry.
