Default Buying a 2000 A4 1.8 Std.

Hi all,
I'm new to the boards. I'm considering buying a 2000 A4 1.8 standard. Anything I should be looking out for for that year? It's in great shape with 110k Km on it. I have the records for work done, and so far nothing out of the ordinary. It's certainly a very cool ride Anything you can point me to that might be a problem for the 2000 year or for A4's in general would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Youd have the updated tensioner for your timing belt being a 2000, so you dont have to worry much about any premature failure, but its probably a good idea to change the belt soon anyway. Other than that, control arms are known to get noisy in higher mileage and need replacing. Make sure that fully synthetic oil is used and that the larger black oil filter is being used. Autozone and most shops dont carry the updated filter, go to the dealer or online to get it. Center display on dash gets fucked up too. Most people have funky pixles in it who have it. There really shouldnt be much to worry about on a 6 year old car that has been maintained well.

Agree. I did timing belt on mine at 80K miles.

Once you get the car, swap out all the fluids, (power steering with Pentosin 11 only, all gear oils in transmission, differentials, etc, Change the air filter, new plugs, have brakes bled and new fluid put in, top up battery with distilled water, and you're good to go.

You didn't mention the most important part of the Audi... is it Quattro?

Yes it's a Q One more question.
I have borrowed an obd2 scanner - when I went to plug it in, the connector pushed through the plastic panel. How do I remove this panel, I'm sure it's a clip thing, but can't seem to find anyhing obvious. Don't want to break it before I buy it
Cheers

haha yeah my connector did that too... it was a pain in the ***. It's really straight forward to get the panel off though... just take a good look at it, and start taking stuff off.

The panel comes off iwth 4 or 5 screws. There are two in the fuse box on the side of the dash, and a couple near the floor. The lower dash should come easily forward and down.

Thanks for the info. I ended up sneaking the connector out the side and testing - no trouble codes
Once I buy it, I'll take the panel off and re-seat it.

Before you buy it have it checked by an independent VW/AUDI mechanic.
