Calling all techs!
Audi/Pentosin ATF is rebranded Esso ATF LT 71141. Any ATF fluid that meets the specifications of that Esso fluid can be used. I believe Castrol and Quaker State both have fluids that are useable these days (their MERCONV fluid I think).

QUAKER STATE MULTI-VEHICLE ATF is recommended for use in most USA vehicles. It is not suitable in a few pre-1986 vehicles where Type F fluids are specified, or some recent vehicles equipped with continuous variable transmissions (CVT’s). See the attached table with vehicle listings!

Don't believe everything you read people, there is usually a hidden agenda behind them.
Thanks for all the feed back guys. Since the transmission seems to be working ok I think I'm just going to leave it be unless I start noticing a bigger problem. I plan on getting a new A4 next summer anyway
