i have a quick question. i have a problem and i wanted to see if anyone has encountered this, just to get an idea of how screwed i am before i go to the audi dealer or how much i am going to have to spend. i have a 1997 a4 1.8T. the car starts up fine and idles but then as soon as i press the gas the car shuts off. any ideas or suggestions?

Any mod work done to the car? how many miles? Does it idle properly or roughly? Will it idle for a long period of time on it's own or does it die at idle after a while?

Check the codes for sure, I'm betting it's either Clogged/blocked cat or the Intercooler piping has popped off or some other hose on the charge system.

 

Could be anything. Pull the codes and post them here along with any mods you have done to the engine.

 

throttle position sensor??? maybe??? RANDOM guess.

 

check for splits in the rubber piping from the MAF to the throttle body also any other vacuum pipes and any loose clips on the pipes
