not something you want to do yourself unless you are very familiar with your car. There is a special procedure - engine at certain temperature, fluid pump to add fluid from "underneath" the car, etc... You can have a VW dealer do it for 125 bucks.
if they will touch it I had a VW dealler flat out refuse to sell me parts because I wasnt putting them on a VW. And when I asked him if I had them put it on if I could buy it he almost had a coronary. I was like WTF man its almost the same as a Passat.
I had a VW dealer do lots of work on my Audi. But there was no Audi dealer in the area.
Next time just tell him that your putting the parts on a VW! VW parts are normally cheaper - even if its the exact same part... They would rather you buy from an Audi dealer so they can rape you even more.

no, technically it's a "lifetime fluid" per audi. But common sense dictates that changing it can't be bad. General concensus is that around 70-80k miles is appropriate. People have contested better shifting performance after their change. I'll be able to verify that when I pick my car up in an hour.

Just got my car back. Seems like it shifts MUCH better now. I used to have some nice clunks when I stepped on the gas, they dont seem to happen now. So all in all, i'd recommend changing it. And as Brrman said, I wouldnt recommend changing it yourself. My mechanic brought me over to show me the under side and said what a pain in the *** it is. He said unless you have the special pump its no walk in the park.
