ok, im trying to help out a buddy with a 01 A4. they said there is a clicking sound coming from the engine under acceleration and while driving, but it went away when she hits the brakes. someone told her it was probably the tranny or transfer case. any ideas guys?

 

Clicking all the time, possibly wheel bearings.

If the sound really does go away when she hits the brakes, it could be something with the brakes. Possibly pads hitting a warped rotor. Do they have any brake pedal pulsation while stopping (light or heavy pressure)?

yea i dont think its either of the two she was told, if it was it wouldnt be only on accel, sounds more like a wheel bearing or a stickin break or somthing

 

does it go away or get worst when turning? could be a axle.

 

hard acceleration?? that would be the C/V joint try doing a full lock circle each way and listen for the noise ( slow speed will do )

 

tell him to get used to strange noises, its an audi for god sakes.
