CLUTCH REPLACEMENT
How hard is it to replace a clutch on a 96 a4 quattro? I looked at the price for the clutch kit itself and they want 408 dollars from auto zone. I dont mind paying for the parts but I am not shelling out anout 500 dollars for an install when i can do it myself. Thanks, RYAN
500 for an install LOL more like $1,000 from the dealer minimum. The 1.8T book time for a clutch is 10 hours and the 2.8L is over 12 hours. Its really not that hard it just takes a while.
I just had the clutch replaced in my girlfriend's 98 2.8 5-speed for $700 all in. The clutch kit was $200 from eBay and the install was $500 at an independent shop near us. It needs a little adjusting but it went well.
I wouldn't do this yourself unless you have a car lift, transmission jack, air tools, another set of hands and plenty of time.
It is possible to get it done reasonably, just shop around.

I replaced the clutch on my jeep wrangler and i took me about 10 hours to do. I figure all i need is a good set of tools, a hanes manual and alot of beer and I should be able to get it done.
