Default Considering buying a used 2004 A4 buuuut it has a ton of miles? what's the life span?

I don't really know much about cars but I'm trading in my 81 vw rabbit for something that isn't a **** hole. Now, I found this A4 quattro at a dealership. They're asking for a little over 9,000 for it. It's manual and I love it. Except there is 152,000 miles on it. I don't really know much about cars or Audis in general (if I knew anything I wouldn't have bought a rabbit..)

Any ideas on the life span or if it's worth buying? I don't want to spend a lot of money on parts especially when audi parts are expensive :s

any help is appreciated

It's not worth it at that price. I see them with less mileage than that going for $7-7500. Keep looking.

^ agreed. As far as the lifespan, these cars can last well beyond 150K as long as all maintenance is kept up on. Read around here about both the 1.8T and 3.0 on the b6 models so you know what to ask about and know which seems to more suit you. Also, see if you can take it to an Audi specific mechanic to have a pre-buyers inspection done, if you don't know much about Audis/cars in general. That can help you get an idea of the condition that the car is really in. Good luck with your search!

Don't buy an Audi. You will have problems with maintenance and repairs. Get a Lexus.

You'll have maintenance and repair issues with any car. That advice is stupid. Try to get service records and have a potential purchase checked over by an Audi technician before dropping the cash. It's worth it.

Ok. Let me reword it. Don't buy an Audi you will have way more maintenance and repair issues than a Lexus. Audis are lemons after 50,000 miles and is not reliable.

Wrong again. It depends on how proactive the prior owner was with maintenance. My car was maintained meticulously by the original owner and I've had one unexpected failure in the 5-1/2 years I've had it. At 216k miles and going strong. The more records you can get, the better.

It's has a clean record and the previous two owners have had it serviced 18 times for recommended matinence. That's pretty good right? And I'll definitely have a mechanic come. Didn't think about that at all.

Depending on what work was done, that's pretty thorough but it's still priced WAY too high. That car should be more like $6000-6500 with that mileage.
