crank breather hose

Default crank breather hose

i jsut noticed this on my car. is there supposed to be a joint piece like that on the crank breather hose? and there's some oil in it is this normal?

You might want to replace the hoses and clean out the hardlines. My brother has a '03 passat 1.8t and his hard pipes were clogged with oil sludge and we just replaced everything all the way to the intake with rubber hose and a catch can. The can filled up with fast with some nasty crap for about a month and ever since, his system has been running much better with just a small amount of oil in the can ever oil change.

That hose leaves the valve cover and runs all the way to the intake. I would replace the hoseor clean them if they are clogged due to oil build up.
