Default Damn CEL

Hey guys. I have a CEL code saying that I have a short or some happiness and something do do with the battery. I'm sorry by I don't exactly remember the correct name or code number. Has anyone ever had this type of code or does anyone know the exact problem and how to fix it? I tried to erase the code but it gets thrown again.

Thanks,

Jacek

Next time it gets thrown, write that baby down and post it up! The more specific the better. Battery short throwing a CEL sounds interesting. What does your volt meter show?

When the car is on, the gauge shows just slightly under 14v

Hello,

I found the exact code and it is (P1613) Open circuit/short with power.

What the hell is that?

Can you tie to anything? I mean, clear the code, start the car with everything off, then start turning things on until the code is thrown. Try that and let us know what happens. Sorry, don't mean to be vague, but this problem could be coming from a number of sources. At least this will start to narrow them down.

My ecu was stolen and I had to get an ecu from a junkyard. It was from a 98 (same year as mine) VW 1.8t of the same vin section.

This code can occur if the vehical you took the ECU from was a manual and you have a tip, or vise versa. The ECU may need recoded to your vehical.

It would make sense. Where can I get my ecu recoded? Do I have to go to satan for this? Also, how much would it relatively cost?

Well if you have a Vag-Com it would be free. The dealer may or may not do this for you. If they do, they will charge you about the same price as a Vag-Com. If you want to find someone in your area with one check this link out:
