The only reason you would want/need a tip chip is to reduce the lag between shifts. It is not necessary, but you may want it. reduces shift by ... .8? if so thats 5x.8 = 4 seconds in 5 gears... will hinder 0-60 times a little....

That can't be right can it? Spend all that money for a car slower than a new H3?
WTF are you talkin about?

Exactly what YOU said here I believe?

"It will not hinder 0-60 times. It will improve them."

Nevermind.

The tip chip will improve 0-60 times. What are you talkin about with "spend all that money for a car slower than a new H3?

ok, my roommate is getting a 2003 a4 1.8 avant with tip tonight with less than 15,000 miles on it. She's coming from a V8, and she's looking to add some more power to the 1.8. I know if she gets her ECU chipped she has to upgrade ther DV and that the tip chip reduces shift time to .2 seconds, but I need some clarity on other issues regarding chipping and auto.

1. Can an automatic handle the extra boost from the chip? I read a post that a torque converter blew once the chip was installed.

2. I also read that it's prudent to get a tip chip as well, what are the consequences if she only chips the ECU?

3. Finally, I read that there is a possible problem with the CEL when getting an ECU and tip chip. Aren't the 2003 a4's prone to electrical problems, is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks guyz appreciate the help.
my 2 cents...

first of all i didn't read what everyone else posted (too lazy) but here's my opinion and experience. i have an 2003 A4 1.8T tiptronic as well. i've had both the Neuspeed and GIAC chip on my car which now is at 72K, both good and never any problems with either. with our cars, you should be able to run any chip on the tiptronics without worrying about oveboosting. to get even more power, some tuners even offer the big injector option which has been known to put out a lot more torque. either way, i highly recommend getting a chip for her 1.8T. where are you located, if you're in the LA or SoCal area, i can give your friend a referral

tip chip is not availabe for the B6, at least not yet.

answer to question no.3 -- NO!

All you retards that keep joking about auto's being slower than manuals. bah. You have to be a very good driver in a manual to exploit the small difference. I've beaten several chipped manual A4's before in my tip avant. I could probably do it with a coffee in my hand too.

Is the tip tranny in the B6 A4 the same as in the S4, cuz then you would be fine producing those type of power numbers 344/302?
