Audi understands the desire for diesels in the US. They have stated that due to poor diesel fuel quality there will be no diesel anytime soon.
Not saying I disagree with you, since I really don't know one way or the other, but on what is this based? Have they made statements to that effect? VW is able to bring several models with TDI here in America with the current diesel. I agree that the quality of the fuel probably does affect manufacturers' interest. That problem should be addressed by the new mandated cleaner diesel coming in the next few years. So right now would be a good time for them to consider starting the process of bringing, say, a 2.0 TDI A4 to the US/Canadian market. I really do hope they understand the desire for diesels here.

This was according to Marc Trahan who is director of Audi Product Management and Quality. He held a townhall meeting on the B7 a month ago and spoke about the prospects of a diesel A4 in the States.

Here is an article about the A6 TDi that audi is starting to market in the US. They are planning to integrate Diesel models for all model lines throughout the next few years.

http://autos.msn.com/as/article.aspx...w=autoshow2005

And this one stating their plan to bring the Q7 in first.
"An Audi spokesperson confirmed plans to offer a diesel.

Axel Mees, the former head of Audi of America Inc., first disclosed the strategy before the automaker said two weeks ago that Mees was fired.

The Q7, Audi's first SUV, is based on the Pikes Peak quattro concept shown at the 2003 Detroit auto show. Audi will introduce a gasoline-powered version in 2006, followed by a diesel version.

Audi will add diesel engines slowly to the rest of its lineup, Mees said."

Kind of off-topic but what exactly is VW's connection to Audi? Are they affiliated, run at the same corporate headquarters?

Thanks saga! Good news and bad news there, I guess. Good news being that they really are going to bring diesels here. The bad news that they're bringing it first in the one vehicle Audi makes that I wouldn't consider even if my last name was Hilton. Hopefully 2007 as a 2008 model they'll bring diesel to a model I would actually buy.

Hey mainer, any luck finding anyone that's done the swap? I too think it would be cool. I've examined all the VW TDI options, and I've decided ... they're all pretty bleh! (No offense intended to any VW fans). I'd really love a B5 A4 with the Passat 2.0 TDI. Torsen Quattro + 134hp 2.0 TDI + biodiesel = If I get some money, I might be willing to be a guinea pig.

surge- VW Audi and Porsche are all affiliated, im not quite sure how though. I bet somebody else can answer this question better than i. Notice that the newer Passat's and A4's look almost identical except for the rear tail lights.

So, has anyone done it? I would really go for it, but don't feel like going in blindly.

Default TDI Allroad

I have talk with Justin at Greaseworks. He thinks it is totally doable. He is doing a TDI transplant in my 95 Syncro Eurovan right now. I want to have an Audi Allroad built for my wife. She is kind of stuck on Hybreds but I going to convert her.
