Default ecu swap

ok so I'm buying a GIAC chip used from some dude. He is going to sell me the whole computer with the chip soldered to the ECU.

M y question is will I have any problems putting a different computer into my car?

I read here ECU – The ECU is responsible for nearly all functions on the car. If the ECU is suspected as a bad part, you need to use a scan tool such as a VAG com to attempt to communicate with the ECU. If you can’t communicate with the ECU, then the ECU needs replacement. Check all electrical connections. Check your Fuses for blown fuses. Whatever killed the ECU might kill the new one.

is this true?

or will I have nothing to worry about

As long as the ecu is from a similar year/engine/and tranny model, it should work just fine.

I.E dont put an ecu from a 98 2.8 fwd into a 2000 1.8t quattro manual. You'll have a world of problems if it even works.

if everything is the same then it should be fine - just use a vag-com to verify softcoding - just to make sure

I am also getting an GIAC Chipped ECU from a friend of mine that just totaled his 99.5 Audi A4 1.8tQ with a manual shift. I was wondering if it's safe for me to put it on my 98.5 A4 1.8tQ with Tip? I've been doing a search and it seems like I can VAG-COM the ECU to make it work with the Tip.

From what I know. Both of our engine codes are AEB and also my ecu is 8d0 907 559C. His is 8d0 907 557P. Should I worry?

I was thinking of doing that to but I was told that it will not work. YOu have to constantly re-program your ECU. It's not worth it. But I could be wrong. This is just what I have found out in my searching.
