Default F#$%ING ECT Sensor

So I've been working for the last hour and a half trying to the this blasted G62 Engine Coolant Temp sensor in. I think I have it properly seated and I have the electrical plug back on it. I was trying to put the retaining clip back on that is supposed to hold it in place and I DROPPED THE F***ING THING. It's not under the car, so it's got to be stuck somewhere in a weird place I can't get to.

Crap, any suggestions?

I still can't figure out exactly how that little clip holds the thing in place. It doesn't seem to do anything but wrap around the sensor -- what holds the clip in place?

Go to VW and ask for it. Its probably like 2.30, serisouly. I bought a new clip when I bought my ECT there, came out to like 25.30 total.

Kinda hard to drive 40 miles without it, eah? :-)

I'll see what I can do... I'll call them tomorrow.

Seriously, though -- how does that little clip hold it in place?

There is a slot in the housing you have to slide the clip in, if you pull out the sensor you will see the copper lip on it which the clip rides on top of holding it down.

haha sorry, I wasnt thinking. Yeah if you lost it, quickest way to get it is through the dealerships. You could try NAPA or something but they will have to order it and wont have any on hand probably. Ebay might have it, but then again you have to wait. You should bum a ride if you have to, lol. Good luck on the install though. Shouldnt be too hard to figure out, I don't remember exactly how the clip went, but I do remember it took me less than 15 minutes to change mine out. You should pick up a new O-ring if you havent already done so as well.

Well, the term "nut grabber" kinda makes me cringe a little, but thanks -- that's a good idea. Unfortunately, I can't even see it.
