Hello-

I have installed an Avic-D3 in my 04A4 with "great success" (as Borat would say) minus a few things that appear to be canbus related.

+ I am going to extend the illumination wire from the H/U to a positive headlight lead in the engine compartment. Does anyone have advice on a relatively easy location to tap into this wire, and perhaps a picture of what said wire would look like? (no voltmeter). I need a 12v vs ground signal related to the lights.

+ My radio reception is junk. Is there an antenna booster post in the A4 or something to the same effect I can tap into?

Thanks for the help. I'm good with metal and wrenches but when I get into wires I'm lost....

OK -

I solved #1 with a little luck on the 1st try:

+ I found the harness that plugs into the driver's side headlight and unplugged it
+ I ran a wire from the illumination wire on my Avic-D3 to the harness, and tried different slots
+ The black and yellow stripe is the headlight wire (main driving light)
+ Tapped the wire, routed through the firewall and to deck
+ Voila

I'm still on the hunt for the antenna booster?

 

Will someone please confirm that this antenna adapter will solve my #2 problem? It appears it will supply power to the antenna booster when the radio is activated.....

This look like anything you've used?

 

that there my friend is an adapter to convert factory antenna to regular standard plug and yes I do believe it's powered. But there is a sepperate unit somewhere. I'm assuming your Canbus is Convertable? sorry never herd of that term.
