FWD vs Quattro & test drive
i definitely disagree with the statement "an audi without quattro is a vw" my previous car was a passatt with the 1.8t, and now i have a 1.8 audi fwd. Believe me the audi with fwd is NOT a vw.
I took my 03 A4 Quattro with sport package up to Sequoias in May. Fluke snowstorm put 2 feet of snow one day. Caught everyone in rental cars, etc, off guard. After digging it out (I don't know how you east Coast folks deal with this), My car handled like a champ (even with 17' sport Pirellis). Trucks were stuck and I was cruising around in the blizzard. Love that quattro!
Your less likely to be in an over steer situation in the quattro then in the fwd. Don't get me wrong, you can be in that situation with the quattro, but a lot more with the fwd. IMO
Get the Quattro, it's a piece of history

don't you meen understeer. Try this on for size. Alot of Audis market is not happy go lucky sports car fanatics that are only looking for awd bliss. More often then not its a mom in here 30's to 40's buying the car, Not to much need for quattro there. They can sell more of them to a wider market by offering different options. And for those that thing that a fwd can't hang, If your ever down my way, Try me. I might just supprise you.
Flyboy, your right on the under steer.... my bad, but what I was trying to sayis that from a road safety aspect in every day driving, I'd go with the quattro. There's nothing like feelingas ifyour on rails.

sorry, here you're wrong. 2.5 TDI quattro has a 0-100km acceleration of 8.9 seconds, and 2.5 TDI FWD has an acceleration of 9.3. so, you see, quattro is faster (well, it also has an additional 17 bhp), but it also takes the toll of an additional 1.5 litres above the FWD model (go and see www.carfolio.com). a6 fwd it very cool, but I must admit that, for those who care more about safety and handling (that also includes me) at the cost of fuel consumption, quattro is a better choice. if you don't care about these (I don't say that fwd isn't safe, no way) fwd is good, and you also save money.

Audi FWD is much lighter and more dependable who is going to take their Audi offroad most of the yuppies who "have to have" the quattro don't know what the hell the word means. i have a FWD and proud of it and its no VW its an Audi allthough the new jetta's have the options i have on my 2003 Audi a4 i guess thats what happens when they are made by one another go figure
