Been pretty slow during the summer but picks up in the fall
I am also contemplating putting the GIAC chip on my 2000 manual, can anyone tell me how this would affect engine wear and also possible fuel consumption (is there a signifcant drop in MPG)? I have about 110K of highway miles on it, and I want to be careful with what performance parts I install. Finally is that claim of +47 horsepower and +80 lbs/torque accurate? Is this at the wheels or crank? Thanks for the help.
As far as engine wear there is little to none. But the turbo there is more. The chip basically raises the boost, which will put more stress on the turbo, advances the timing and remaps fuel. If you chip id be sure that you don't get a heavy foot when the car is cold, and proper cool down will help from the turbo caking. As far as gas mileage, city driving will drop mainly because of the HFS disease, "heavy foot syndrom", but highway MPG wont be affected that much, if it is id say only a mile or two MPG loss, and that is pushing it. Also your cars has a good amount of miles, id keep up on maintnace cause it will only bite you in your ***.
