Going to drive 2000 miles, 32 hours... any tips for the trip?
First, I'm going to get a full tuneup on my car. The only thing that concerns me is that it is almost time for the timing belt to be changed and I wish I could afford to change it right now, but its at least a few months away.
I'm going to practice changing my tires with the kit from my trunk a couple times so I'm not ****ed should it blow out in a blizzard or something. God Forbid! If I ever need to change a tire or remove it I've always done it with my dads equipment which is 100x better than what is in my trunk.
Any other tips?
I drive an 2k1 A4 1.8t and dont have a turbo timer, so I figure after the long, long stretches of driving I'll sit in the car a little bit, min or 2, to let it 'cool' down.
Going from Sacramento, California to Aurora, Illinois (About 40min west of Chicago). Moving out there for good so my car will be packed. I know on my gas lid it gives recomendations for tire pressure when lightly loaded (2 people 32lbs) or heavily loaded (5 people or lots of cargo, I think 36lbs)
Dont know i'f I'm missing anything. I may need to carry tire chains to cross the Sierra to, depends on the weather I guess.

Dont fall assleep. Ive never heard of anyone practicing a tire/wheel change. Its pretty straight forward.. losen lug nuts, raise car, remove wheel, and then the confusing part is i guess having to do everything in reverse to complete the job. Always let your engine "cool down" for a minute or two. Good luck, dont forget gas money and windshield washer fluid.
