Great way to start the week
I had a 300 dollar ticket for "tailgating" a cop once. Cuz you know, we all do THAT without thinking twice about it. And by the way, he pulled me over from an onramp i watched him pull onto the highway on. He was a d*ck. Two months later the ticket had never came in the mail so I had to call them to see what happened so i didn't get another citation or whatever for not paying it. As it turns out, D*ck had it wedged down between his seat and last months donut and forgot to turn it in.
Tickets are a bummer... but what can you do?? If you were over, you were over... they only thing you can do is fight it!!
Prothymos, What method of measuring your speed did the cop use?? Was it Radar, Laser or did he just pace you???
I have a couple friends that are cops, I occasionally ride with them on duty. They are some of the most aggressive drivers on the road and some of the most gracious at the same time. When they are working traffic (speed enforcement), they don't even want to take their car out of park unless they get someone at 14mph over or higher. They want the extremists, and the dirt bags!! Their Idea of a good day is a good Felony arrest!!
As Evnas stated, some agencies gauge their officers on number of tickets, or contacts.. around here it is that way! However Much is left to officer discretion on how they deal with it. For instance one of my friends jokes that he has the happiest "customers" in town. He may be pulling over someone for speeding, but finds some other lame, non traffic violation that he can write them. His favorites are window tint, no front license plate, no seat belt, or wrong address on their drivers license. All of these tickets keep his stats up, but are all under $50 tickets and don't affect insurance. Yeah, it is a bummer to get any kind of ticket, but a 5mph over ticket here is $92. I would gladly take a non-moving violation ticket any day!!!
Unfortunately there are some cops have little man syndrome and have to flex their ticket writing muscles to feel all powerful. But remember even though you are pissed that you get a ticket, don't loose your cool and be an a**hole, because they write about your demeanor, attitude etc. on the back of the ticket that goes to the court, and the judge or bail commisioner sees all of that!!
If you plan on fighting it, your attitude and comments about the doughnut shop may come back to haunt you!!
I had experience about 3 weeks ago... On my way to work, I was enjoying some higher speed cornering
, and passed a Toyota Camry car on a two lane clover leaf .... after exiting the turn decided to throw it down a bit and about 15 seconds later I hear a siren, and see red and blues in my rear view mirror......[&o] It was the same Camry that I passed in the turn, I was like oh %^&$, I was waaay over the speed limit.... the cop was cool, I handed him my license and CCW and I made a comment the he was pretty sneaky in that off the wall unmarked car. He laughed and only gave me a verbal warning, Have a nice day,LOL. I guess I got lucky that day.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...... Radar Busters

at least it's not an 8 hour course like it is here in So Cal. I got pulled over a couple of years ago for an "illegal" left turn but no signs....and paid $180 plus 8 hours of traffic school. YES that was fun...[sm=noooo.gif]
I agree with Jager. Not ALL cops are created equal. State Troopers and Highway Patrol officers derive the majority of their work through traffic violations. Normal cops, or officers that work for a city police department USUALLY have better things to do than pull over someone going less than 10 miles over the limit. The same can be said for deputies working for a county sheriff's department.
Tickets suck. And so do some cops. But imagine a country without law enforcement. Who would you turn to when your Audi is involved in an accident or worse... stolen?
The moral? Drive safely, but have fun..... no... how about just don't get caught!

Prothymos, If you want to be invisible to laser check this out!!!! Laser Jammer They are illegal in a few states including mine, but if they were legal.... I would have one in a heartbeat!!!! Radar detectors work great, but laser detectors just let you know when to pull over, there is NO reaction time with laser!!!
All I want is sharks with freakin laser beams attached to their heads!!! LOL

wow what a scum bag, you should go to court and fight it. my friend is doing an intership with the police department because he wants to be a cop and he gets to ride along with them at night and he says they usually never pull anyone over unless they are doing 16 MPH over the limit otherwise its unlikely it'll hold up in court. sometimes they pull people over for doing like 5 over at night just to see if they were drinking.
I'd def take it to court

do the 4 hour class online... makes it way easier. It's broken up into sections, and it forces you to stay on each one for a certain number of minutes. It only takes like 5 minutes (or less) to actually skim or read each section, so just do something else for an hour or so when your done reading. Repeat for each section. Makes it way more convenient
got my first speeding ticket couple weeks ago, friday the 13th...
15 over.... 65 in a 50... at about 7 at night (still perfectly light out)
he came up to the window, asked if i new why he pulled me over i said yes, i was speeding, he goes how fast were you going, i said 60, he goes i got you at 65. then he goes is that a radar detector? i go yes. he takes my license registration and insurance card back to his car and comes back with a ticket, and goes "if you didnt have a radar detector i would have just given you a warning, please sign here".... that just pissed me off $180 for 15 over.
i contested it because i didnt want to loose my license (was still in my 2 year probationary period) over the summer. so now i can wait prolly close to a year to get a court date back, and they give you the option to pay it again when they send you the court date, so thats probably what i'll do.
friend contested one 7months ago and still hasnt gotten a date so i figure it'll be a while.
