does the car have gas?

 

She filled up in Eugene (in OR, attendants must pump the gas) the car stopped ~ 50 -- 100 miles down the road somewhere north of Salem. If it were out of gas, wouldn't it stumble, and wouldn't the starter turn the motor over as opposed to spin "freely"? jw

 

sounds like timing belt to me...if it was the timing belt your looking at a perty costly repair if it damaged the internals of the engine

 

While it is outside the warranty period, is there any recourse through Audi. Their recommended replacement is at 80k, the car has 73k. Does this amount to any culpability, or am I sol. What kind of money am I looking at? Best case worst case scenario. jw

 

80 is not a gaurantee its ebst changed by 80k, it can differ depending on how the car is driven and weather if ti gets really cold and really hot, degrading the belt, waht prob happened is that the tensioner froze and wore it out. Audi is an interfference Motor so if the belt goes you can be SOL hard bending 20 valves is not uncommon, if yo u get lucky and break a couple still gonne be $$ but not as bad.

 

my timing belt was 120 with tensioners and water pump...from audi dealer ship

 

Same exact thing happened to me!

TIMING BELT!

And i'm guessing you will end up replacing quiet a few valves as well

JW, I also live in the greater Seattle area. I know of many realiable shops you should look into who have done amazing work for me (dropped the car off thursday night, they replaced the turbo, changed all fluids etc by 5:30 pm the next day). PM me if you would like to know some of these shops.
