Hi,

I'm in the UK and have a problem with my 2001 A4 1.8T.

A few days ago, the temp gauge went up to max and I had the 'check coolant' message displayed in the dash. I checked the coolant and all OK. The climate also only started blowing cold air?

Spoke to a few friends and came to the conclusion that it may be a thermostat faliure so changed the whole stat and housing today (came as a complete unit, couldn't get the stat on its own) however the problem persists.

Any advice please as to what the issue may be?

Sounds like the temp sensor to me. Pretty common..

 

CTS (Coolant temp sensor), not too hard of a job on a 1.8 - make sure you get the right one for your car....there are a few different ones....
