onepoint8tee, as far as your saying that i am not trained in the area of driveability HAH try again, i think an ASE cert and $30,000.00 in tuission earns me the right to put in my 2 cents. The fact is that the OBD-II system is not entirely manufacture designed and is mostly designed by our good friends the EPA. Now every OBD system must meet certain requirements as to how they act, one of those requirements is that the CEL will flash when the computer detects a catalyst damaging misfire, now i do realize i jumped the gun too soon by saying it was a coil pack. But i did not miss the boat by telling you the only flashing condition is for a misfire, take a look at your so called expert sources and you will find yourself informed hopefully. The obd system is not designed to warn you your engine is gonna blow up by any means, it is not a mechanical indicator of your engine either, it is a emission designed device and all those sensors and actuators on your motor are as well. its really just a monitoring device, and when something goes a rye it changes many things like ignition timing and fuel trim to try and correct those issues, sensors are inputs to the systems (the eyes and ears so to speak) and the actuatators are the outputs (hands and feet). now anyhow to get back on point, you guys are not the tech working on the vehicle, i do agree with the statement of needs to get a scanner and check out the codes, but a bad alternator can 100% cause a misfire in the engine, there are so many diffrent things that can cause a misfire that unless your the one right there in front of the car using the scanner and checking it out and watching the fuel trim and watching the gas analyzer you cant say for sure that this audi tech is wrong, i personally think its probably a coil pack, but at the same time you dont know what is being fedback on the scanner and who knows what this guys mechanical competance is, so give him a break, if he wants to pay 600 bux thats his deal and not your so stop jockin his nuts and acting like his bitch.
